  Tattoo After Care

Congratulations!   You have just received a new tattoo applied by a trained professional!   Now it is up to you to make sure it heals properly.   Follow these simple instructions for an easy, effective after care process.

  • Leave protective bandage on for 1-2 hours.   It will absorb any bleeding and will protect the area from germs and bacteria.
  • Once the bandage is removed, wash tattoo with CLEAN hands, using antibacterial hand soap.   Cool water will soothe and close the pores.   Pat dry with paper towel or clean towel.
  • LITHA method.   Leave It The Hell Alone.   Let the tattoo "air out" for 1-2 days.   It will not need any bandages or ointments.
  • After the initial 1-2 days, begin applying a THIN layer of Aquaphor or unscented white lotion (fragrance free lubriderm) one or two times a day.   Apply only enough lotion to be quickly absorbed. Less is MORE.   Don't baby it.
  • Scabs/peeling/flaking are a normal part of the healing process.   It will get worse before it gets better.   Allow the scabs to fall off naturally.   They will flake off as the tattoo heals completely.   Do not pick or scratch at the tattoo.   This can damage the tattoo underneath.   Allow 2-4 weeks for healing, as everyone heals differently.
  • Avoid hot tubs and chlorinated pools during the initial healing phase.   Chlorine will damage fresh tattoos.   Sun block is advisable to keep your tattoo protected from the sun during and after the healing process.   The sun's damaging UV rays will age and fade your tattoo.
  • Please feel free to call the shop with any questions or concerns.   477-ROCK. Thank you for your business and enjoy your new tattoo!
